Evansville teenager seriously injured in accident

<p dir="ltr"><span>An 18-year-old Evansville man was seriously injured in a Sunday afternoon accident on State Route 154 at Griggs Road.</span>

<p dir="ltr"><span>According to a news release from the Illinois State Police, the teenager - whose name was withheld - was a passenger in a 2000 Toyota pickup driven by 20-year-old Justin Guethle of Chester.</span>

<p dir="ltr"><span>Driver and witness accounts say the Toyota was eastbound on Route 154 at Griggs Road while a 1998 Dodge pickup driven by 56-year-old Wilford Wolfmeier, of Red Bud, was headed westbound approaching that same intersection.</span>

<p dir="ltr"><span>The Toyota turned left into the path of the Dodge, causing the collision. Guethle and Wolfmeier suffered minor injuries, but the 18-year-old suffered "incapacitating" injuries and was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital.</span>

<p dir="ltr"><span>Both drivers were treated at Red Bud Regional Hospital.</span>

<p dir="ltr"><span>The roadway was closed for an hour for investigation and cleanup. Guethle was ticketed for failure to yield when turning.</span>

<p dir="ltr"><span>The accident was reported at 1:51 p.m., with ISP being assisted by the Baldwin Fire Department and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.</span>
