No reported injuries in Van Zant fire
A Monday morning fire at 621 Van Zant St. in Chester resulted in no reported injuries, but significant damage to an upstairs family room.
According to Chester Fire Chief Marty Bert, two people were home at the time of the fire and both made it out safely. The house is owned by Eddy Ladendecker.
"They had a space heater and a kerosene heater," Bert said. "The kerosene heater wasn't being used, but we're leaning toward the space heater as the cause.
"I'm going to talk with some of the other guys and confirm."
Firefighters were paged out at 8:55 a.m. and cleared the scene at 10:40 a.m. The Ellis Grove Volunteer Fire Department assisted in the effort.
"The upstairs is pretty well destroyed and the first floor has smoke and water damage," Bert said. "As far the structure goes, it can be rebuilt. Most of the structural beams are still OK."
