CHS JV falls in OT to SVWW

<span>Tyler Winchester hauled in an 18-yard pass from quarterback Reid Basso in the extra session, and the Sesser-Valier-Waltonville-Woodlawn junior varsity team escaped W.O. Smith Field with a 14-8 overtime victory over Chester on Monday.</span>

<span>Chester led 8-0 for most of the game thanks to a 60-yard touchdown run from sophomore tailback Jack Hathaway with 4.9 seconds left in the first quarter. Clayton Richelman got the conversion reception on a pass from quarterback Calvin Clendenin.</span>

<span>S-V-W-W tied the game on another touchdown pass from Basso with 1:41 left in the third quarter and added the conversion to knot the game at 8.</span>

<span>Chester (2-2) had a chance to end the game in regulation after the Yellow Jackets recovered a S-V-W-W fumble on the CHS 34 with 53.3 seconds left.</span>

<span>Chester made it to the Red Devils' 26, but quarterback Nick Meyer threw the team's fifth interception of the game to end the threat.</span>

<span>The Yellow Jackets got the ball first in overtime and made it three yards before turning the ball over on downs. On S-V-W-W's ensuing possession, a high snap pushed the Red Devils back to the Chester 25.</span>

<span>Winchester, who had both of S-V-W-W's touchdowns in the Red Devils' freshman loss last Thursday, later ended the game with his reception.</span>

<span>Offensively for Chester, Hathaway finished with 139 yards on 17 carries as the Yellow Jackets accumulated 270 rushing yards. Freshman Drake Bollman added 83 yards on five carries, while Brady Kelkhoff contributed 45 yards on 12 carries.</span>

<span>Other rushers for Chester were Eathan Thompson (3-21), Pierson Lyons (2-(-4) and Hunter Munie (1-1).</span>

<span>Passing-wise, Clendenin went 3-for-7 for 32 yards and four interceptions for Chester, while Meyer went 1-for-2 for 26 yards and a pick. Richelman had all 58 receiving yards for the Yellow Jackets.</span>

<span>Defensively, Thompson led Chester with 11 tackles (eight solo), while Kelkhoff had eight (six solo).</span>

<span>Up next for Chester is a road matchup with Johnston City next Monday at Ralph Davison Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.</span>
