Steeleville rolls past Murphysboro
Steeleville American Senior Legion BBK Post 480 continued there winning ways June 29 at home with a 9-1 win over Murphysboro.
In the bottom of the first inning, Steeleville sent 13 hitters to the plate jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Dusty Sutton led off with a base hit. Owen Gross drew a walk, Ryan Vogt reached on an error, Jordan Wilson, Nathan Parkinson and Bradley Mevert each delivered consecutive singles to rally Steeleville. Murphysboro came back with one in the second but that was all they could push across. Steeleville added one in the third and three more in the fourth to pull away with a 9-1 win.
Dusty Sutton went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Jacob Sutton also went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Gross was 1 for 2 with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI. Wilson was 3 for 3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and 2 RBI. Mevert went 1 for 1 with a stolen base and 2 RBI. Parkinson and Vogt each added a hit. On the mound, Gross threw 4 innings of three hit ball while striking out eight. Parkinson, Dylan Hill and AJ Stearns each tossed a scoreless inning.
Steeleville is now 10-1.

Steeleville American Junior Legion BBK Post 480 went to West Frankfort on June 30 to take on Orient.
Steeleville would get a run in the top of the first only to see Orient answer with two in the bottom of the inning. Steeleville would retake the lead in the top of the second adding two to give them a 3-2 advantage. Orient put three on the board in the third, taking a 5-3 lead. Again, Steeleville scratched ahead with three runs in the top of the fourth taking a 6-5 lead.
Steeleville added another in the top of the fifth pushing the lead to 7-5 only to see Orient tie the game in the bottom of the fifth. Once again, Steeleville put a run on the board in the sixth for the 8-7 lead but Orient responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to get a 10-7 lead.
They would this time shut down Steeleville to hold on for the 10-7 win.
