Chester FD responds to grease fire
Firefighters with the Chester Fire Department were paged out Sunday evening to the report of a grease fire at 456 West Holmes St.
Chester Fire Chief Marty Bert told the Herald Tribune the fire was already out when firefighters arrived. The house is a rental property owned by Rose Marie Hoh, of St. Louis.
"It was a grease fire on the stove that got into the hood vent," Bert said. "We ended up taking (the vent) out and making sure there was no extension (of the fire) into the wall."
Bert said there was some smoke damage to the kitchen area.
"(The occupant) was concerned about her two cats, but we found both of them," Bert said.
Firefighters were paged out at 8:15 p.m. and remained on-scene for about an hour.
