Chester Public Library to welcome L. Douglas Hogan on Saturday
In addition to Gayle Harper on Thursday, the Chester Public Library will be hosting another significant book signing event as L. Douglas Hogan will have a presentation on April 25 at 10:30 a.m. that will include details of his book, "OATH TAKERS," his military career and his next literary work.
OATH TAKERS, which has received significant positive feedback on Amazon.com, is "dedicated to the American oath taker, whoever he or she may be."
"It's primarily for people who have sworn oaths - politicians, military officers, police, fire and EMA officials," Hogan said in a phone interview with the Herald Tribune. "Basically, anyone who has taken an oath to the Constitution."
A Marine Corps Veteran with more than 20 years experience in public service, Hogan is a Randolph County Deputy Sheriff and a part-time Evansville Police officer. The views expressed in Hogan's book are his and not those of the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.
"What I thought was amazingly simple was the process of self-publishing," Hogan said, when asked if anything surprised him about the process. "It was $140 to pay an editor and a guy in the UK to format for ebook publication."
Published on Feb. 11, OATH TAKERS is written in a style that doesn't "beat around the bush" or "tip-toe through tulips," according to its description on Amazon.com. The book also includes a copy of the U.S. Constitution.
"It addresses deep challenges and issues with where we're at, where we came from and not bowing to unconstitutional laws," Hogan said. "It's about politicians not upholding unconstitutional laws and police officers not enforcing unconstitutional laws."
Hogan also emphasized the book isn't just for those who have taken Constitutional oaths.
"This book isn't only for people who have sworn oaths," he said. "It's for patriots, people in leadership positions who want to improve themselves.
The chapter is called 'From the bottom up' and it's totally about leadership."
OATH TAKERS is Hogan's first book and he credited Veteran and children's book author Geoff Hopf for helping him get the process started.
"He's one that mentored me and walked through the process of writing my first book," Hogan said. He said 'OATH TAKERS is a really good book, but you should really consider writing a fictitious book.'"
And that's how Hogan's second novel, "TYRANT," came about. TYRANT is due for a late April/Early May release.
"TYRANT is 15 years into America's future," Hogan said. "America is under martial law and the president has enacted many executive orders.
"American citizens have broken off into survival groups and things have gotten pretty ugly."
Hogan said the next step is to "buy his own book" and get it into the hands of military personnel and American Legion commanders.
"I'm pretty popular on the local level, but I haven't reached my greatest crowd yet," Hogan said. "After I do my two book signings, I'm going to go to the next level of marketing with talk shows and things of that nature.
"Overall, I'm happy with my Amazon reviews, but by and large, I haven't reached my main audience yet."
At Saturday's book signing, there will be a raffle for a Kindle version of OATH TAKERS, a raffle for a redemption code for an audible version of the book and all individuals who purchase OATH TAKERS and leave a review on Amazon will be entered into a raffle for an autographed pre-release print of TYRANT.
