Coulterville man guilty of murder
Coulterville resident William Farnsworth Friday was found guilty at a stipulated bench trial in front of Judge Gene Gross for the offense of second degree murder.
Farnsworth entered a plea of guilty to DUI at the same hearing. A sentence hearing is set for June 5 at 9 a.m. The range of sentence on second degree murder is four to 20 years with the Department of Corrections. The defendant is eligible for a day-for-day credit if sent to IDOC and has the possibility of receiving probation for up to 48 months.
The prosecutor indicated to the court that in exchange for the defense agreeing to the bench trial, the sentence that will be sought will be capped at 12 years. However, the court is not bound by that request.
