Chester FD responds to chimney fire
Firefighters with the Chester Fire Department responded to the report of a chimney fire at 1100 Park Blvd. around 6 p.m. on Saturday.
According to Chester Fire Chief Marty Bert, the fire was contained to the chimney and no structural damage was reported.
"We climbed on the roof and put a fire extinguisher down (the chimney)," said Bert, who added firefighters didn't use their water hoses to avoid cracking the mortar of the chimney. "If you crack the flue liner, the fire can break out and catch the rest of the house on fire."
Bert said firefighters were on scene for about an hour.
