Tamaroa Board accepts bid for new pavilion roof
The Tamaroa Village Board accepted a bid for a new metal pavilion roof from Alvis Brothers for just under $6,000.
Trustee Bill Place moved to take $3,000 from the Community Center trust fund and up to an additional $4,500 from the general fund to pay for the new roof on the pavilion and a new roof on the outdoor bathroom.
Secretary Cheryl Pelker was asked to inform Alvis Brothers that their bid for the pavilion was accepted and to ask for a bid on the bathroom to be done at the same time.
In other business, the board:
• passed a motion to reduce the number of package liquor licenses available from two to one. Since Pestka's closed, there is only one active package liquor license in town. Trustee Bill Place said that limiting the number of available licenses to the number already in use allows additional time for public comment when a potential licensee applies because the liquor ordinance must be amended to allow for the new license and remain on file for 30 days before the amendment is passed. Place said that if a license is available and there is no reason to deny the applicant, it must be issued.
• accepted the resignation of village employee Darrell Wright, effective Feb. 1. The board will advertise for a new employee.
• heard from Pelker that the seats currently held by Trustees Lisa Haycraft, Kerri Schoenbacher and Kirk Pestka are up for election in April. Haycraft, Schoenbacher, Butch Hunter and Richard Kurtz have filed to run for Village Trustee.
• authorized supervisor Chuck Zoeckler to purchase five gallons of sewer line cleaner for $170. Zoeckler said the cleaner is supposed to eat tree roots.
• heard from Haycraft that there were 42 names on the Angel Tree. Of those, 12 were not chosen and the village purchased gifts for them at a cost of $265. She said the Pinckneyville Optimist Club and Jim Dimitroff donated toys which were distributed to the children on the Tamaroa tree.
• heard from Angela Watkins that the Christmas party went well. She already has volunteers for next year.
• heard from Place that he received an email from Southern Engineering indicating the village should create a Motor Fuel Tax budget for the coming year. He said the street committee can work on it and create a budget before the next meeting.
• discussed the need for a trencher or track hoe. A track hoe costs $45,000 to $47,000.
