Woman found dead during welfare check

CHESTER -- Chester police assisting a resident with a welfare check at the Gwin Senior Apartments home of 60-year-old Deborah Vogt discovered Vogt's body on Monday.

A crime scene technician with the Illinois State Police was called in as a "precaution," according to Chester Police Chief Ryan Coffey.

"The purpose for asking for assistance from an ISP crime scene tech is to process and document the scene should there be more questions following the medical examiner's autopsy," Coffey said. "Their involvement in this case is nothing more than precautionary at this time. We are simply being careful and thorough."

Randolph County Coroner Randy Dudenbostel said an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. He said Vogt had "health issues" and foul play is not suspected at this time.

"At this point, we don't know a whole lot," Dudenbostel said. "We're still investigating with the Illinois State Police."

In a news release, the Chester Police Department said officers were called out at 4:26 p.m. to the apartments, located at 214 Opdyke St., where police and paramedics discovered the deceased Vogt.
