Tamaroa Board creates policy for complaints
The Village Board tabled most of the larger issues brought before them in May because three trustees were not present. Trustees Lisa Haycraft, Bill Place and Fred Schultz agreed to wait until the all or most of the board was present to discuss pay raises for village employees.
Discussion of raises was tabled until next month. Should the board choose to increase employees' hourly wages, the raises will be retroactive.
The board also declined to make a decision on new legal representation. Ed Heller of Reed Heller Mansfield Gross told the board that their attorney, Matt Foster, is no longer with the law firm. Should they choose to continue using Reed Heller Mansfield Gross, their attorney would be based in Murphysboro, not Du Quoin.
The board did ask Heller to have a representative attend the June meeting.
The board did make one policy decision. A motion requiring all complaints, except those about ordinances, be presented in person to the board or in a signed letter to the board.
Complaints about weeds, vermin and other issues covered by ordinances may be given over the phone to Village Hall. Employee Tiffany Kujawa will pass on those complaints to the Sheriff's Department so citations may be issued where necessary.
In other business, the board:
• instructed Clerk Cheryl Pelker to contact Home Lumber in Du Quoin about repairing the roof on the pavilion, employee Chuck Zoeckler said that there are shingles missing and wood is showing.
• heard that the town-wide yard sale is June 7 and the tractor pull is June 15. There is no rain date for the tractor pull.
• heard from Mike Smith of Southern Engineering that the income survey is due by Friday of this week if it is to be used in a grant application this year. Board members said it is unlikely they will complete it on time. Smith suggested the board complete the survey as quickly as possible. The data is good for several years. The grant application can be completed next year. Smith was asked to find out what it would cost to connect the sewer lift stations to the SCADA system.
• approved maintenance contract with ESA Inc. for an annual inspection of the sewer lift stations at a cost of $921 and Cummins for an annual inspection of the generator at the ground storage tank for $1,342.
