County Board awards courthouse roof contract to low bidder

The Perry County Board authorized Chairman Bobby Kelly to sign a contract awarding the roof replacement bid to Taylor Roofing of Belleville. A representative of the roofing company will need to sign the contract then County Clerk Josh Gross can notarize it.

Taylor Roofing was the low bidder at $43,000. Perry County budgeted $100,000 for the roof project.

The board opened the bids at the previous meeting. Bids ranged from $43,000 to $89,714. The board asked Sheriff Keith Kellerman to some research on the low bidder as none of them were familiar with the company.

Kellerman said Taylor Roofing has been in business since 1905. He received several glowing recommendations and the company faxed copies of their state license and liability insurance policies.

In other business, the board:

• approved the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension lease for another year at the same price as the current lease- $75,000 to be paid quarterly. The board will follow up on UIUC's request for an additional door in their office at the next meeting.

• passed a resolution awarding the Unit Road District motor fuel tax materials contracts to the low bidders. They were: Barr Trucking for CA-1/CA-5 at $9 per ton, Beelman Logistics for CA-6/CA-10 at $8.23 per ton and CA-16 at $7.73 per ton, Quad County Ready Mix for 50 lb. and 150 lb. riprap at $14.70 and $15.70 per ton, respectively, Illini Asphalt Corp. for HFE-150 and CA-16 at $2.36 per gallon and $24.55 per ton, respectively, and Marathon Petroleum for HFE-300 at $2.5380 per gallon.
