Ava man convicted of home invasion, battery

Jackson County State's Attorney Michael C. Carr announced Wednesday that Richard Reiman, 53, of Ava, was convicted by a Jackson County jury Jan. 24 on four counts stemming from an incident which occurred Feb. 22, 2013 in Murphysboro.

Reiman was convicted on one count of home invasion, one count of aggravated unlawful restraint, one count of domestic battery and one count of violation of an order of protection for acts committed against his ex-wife and daughter on Feb. 12, 2013.

Evidence at trail revealed that Reiman, who had previously been served with an order of protection prohibiting contact between him, his ex-wife and daughter went to their home in Murphysboro on the evening of Feb. 12 armed with a knife. He entered the residence without permission and while inside damaged parts of the residence, inflicted injury on the two individuals inside the residence and made threats while inside the residence.

Sentencing in this case has been set for March 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Home invasion is a Class X felony and carries a 6-30-year sentence. Probation is not a possibility.
