Woman struck by car in DeSoto Friday

A 49-year-old DeSoto woman was struck at 9 p.m. Friday by a vehicle traveling in the southbound lane of U.S. 51 near Fox Road south of DeSoto.

Lisa Wenzel was walking northbound on the highway when some items she was carrying fell onto the highway. She accidentally stepped into the path of a vehicle driven by James Hart, 42, of Centralia while trying to recover the items, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

She was taken by Jackson County Ambulance Service to an area hospital and is expected to fully recover.
