Du Quoin, Perry County receive emergency services grants

Local Perry County emergency management agencies recently received notice of 2013 federal fiscal year funding through the Federal Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) which is awarded through the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA). The grant funds, which are awarded annually to those local agencies who have accredited programs through IEMA, are used for day-to-day operations and administrative/planning purposes. Funding the State of Illinois receives through the program allows IEMA to provide training to local emergency managers and provide assistance in disaster planning.

Perry County Emergency Management Agency received $17,834.26 and Du Quoin Emergency Services and Disaster Agency received $15,785.37 through the grant programs.

"The EMPG grants really help our local programs be better prepared and enhance public safety," said Perry County EMA Coordinator David Searby Jr.
