Du Quoin middle and elementary schools to get new electronic locks, cameras over the summer
The main entrances to the Du Quoin Elementary School and Du Quoin Middle School will both get new video surveillance cameras and electronic locks over the summer, according to Supt. Dr. Gary Kelly with the advice and consent of the board of education.
The cost of the upgrades will approach $12,500, and the systems will be in place when the buildings open this fall. The main entrance to the Du Quoin High School will also get an upgrade beyond customary security measures already incorporated into the building plan. In other action, the board:
Approved a clinical experience agreement with Southern Illinois Hospital Services (SIH) for students as part of health occupations curriculum and CNA program.
DEA representative Jean Ann Mathis, on behalf of the DEA, spoke to the board about having a positive school year and thankful for the recent contract agreement that was recently approved by the board and DEA.
The board approved a request from John Kearbey Jr. for a fundraiser event to assist the high school football program.
The district architect gave an update on the high school construction project and the recent submittal of a maintenance grant on behalf of the district. The building will be completely finished over the summer. The board approved the payment of bills for the high school construction project as presented.
The board approved the summer maintenance work list items as presented by the district business manager. Work will include building cleaning, technology upgrades, last of the new DHS construction pieces, electronic locks and cameras at each school.
The board and administration discussed technology integration support and its importance in the teaching/learning process.
The board approved the renewal of worker's compensation insurance and Treasurer's bond through Worker's Compensation Self-Insurance Trust (WCSIT) and property, casualty, liability insurance through the Illinois School District Agency (ISDA).
The board approved a leave of absence request from Sarah Geiger for maternity leave to begin at the start of the 2013-2014 school year with tentative return scheduled for Sept. 23, 2013.
The board accepted the resignation of Jan Weinberg as Elementary School CAP Team Co- Coordinator effective at the present time.
The Board employed the following as summer food service program workers: supervisor - Adam Fornear; cooks - Josephine Jackson, Danielle Woll, and Kathy Malinski; cook assistants - Sherri Clark and Missy Higgins
The board employed the following as summer school program teachers and aides: teachers - Terri Benson, Jessica Hamburger, Patty Aue, Wendy Wear, Lanae Hollis, Jean Ann Mathis, Charles Montgomery, Amanda Dearmond, and Missy Montgomery; aides - Laura Rea, Judy Beckham, Robin Roach, Bethany Lane, Julie Behm, Sandy McCune, Darla Hunter, Michelle Bradley, and Guy Brosch; secretary - Sarah Carter.
