Heritage Bowl III in discussion

As summer football workouts begin - or are close to beginning - across the county, discussions are underway to bring the Heritage Bowl back for another round in 2017.

The Chester vs. Sparta freshman contest was born in 2014 and after a year off in 2015, returned last year with a traveling trophy and a thirst for revenge by the Bulldogs. Sparta athletic director Rich Williams has confirmed he has reached out to his counterpart in Chester, new AD Jeremy Blechle, about continuing the historic rivalry.

Sparta soundly defeated Chester, 62-0, in Heritage Bowl II thanks to four touchdowns and 145 yards rushing by Tony Williams. The series is now tied at a game apiece as it theoretically shifts back to W.O. Smith Field in Chester, where it began three years ago.
