Driver hits utility pole; friends in car scatter

A 20-year-old Du Quoin woman has been cited for failure to report an accident and improper lane usage after the 1995 Toyota she was driving plowed into a utility pole at 4:58 a.m. Sunday morning on West Park near South Walnut.

Driver Riquel Worthington, 20, and three friends had scattered when police arrived. The car is registered to her mother, Nicole Worthington. The police department says the car hit the pole hard enough to activate the air bags.

Apparently no one was hurt.
