Downtown Du Quoin power brownout
A partially blown fuse atop a 2,400 volt transformer at Ameren's Olive Street substation was to blame for a partial power outage in much of downtown Du Quoin Monday afternoon. The brownout affected one phase of a three-phase circuit.
Ameren personnel switched power over to the line from a North Division Street substation until a repair could be made late in the afternoon.
The Du Quoin Police and Street Departments set up stop signs at the intersection of South Washington and East Poplar Streets after traffic control lights at the intersection went dark.
Du Quoin firemen responded to three calls, two having to do with carbon monoxide detectors going off because of partial power and one resident believed a ceiling fan motor was hot after power came back on.
