Pinckneyville prison put on lockdown
The Pinckneyville Correctional Center was placed on lock-down Thursday after an inmate struck a guard in the face during a routine inmate movement.
Union spokesman Randy Hellmann of Local 943 said inmates were in a routine "line movement" when an inmate stepped out of line and struck the guard. The guard was taken to the prison's infirmary and treated for a black eye.
The inmate was said to be a member of the regular prison population and not one of the inmates transferred recently from the Tamms Super Max prison.
This is the second incident in a month. On Dec. 7 an inmate attacked and injured a guard.
