Robert E. White

Robert E. White, 86, of Dowell, passed away at 3:42 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin.

Robert had worked as a spray painter for Maytag in Herrin for 41 years. He had worked for Deits Farms for several years and was a member of the Dowell Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Robert was an avid bowler and enjoyed hunting.

He was born Oct. 31, 1927 at Herrin, Ill., the son of Birdie V. White.

He married Madge Cornett Slover on Jan. 4, 1958 at Dowell, Ill. and she preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 1992.

He is survived by one step daughter - Phyllis Dunlap, one step son - Ronald Slover, one special granddaughter - Rhonda Balducci, four cousins - Loretta Woolsey, who was his caregiver, and her companion Glen Newcom of Herrin, Brenda Keeling and family of California, Elizabeth Orr and family of Arizona and Joyce Mahan of Herrin, eight step grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and wife.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
