County's Worker's Comp Premiums Will Drop in 2013

The Perry County Board renewed worker's compensation, general liability and property casualty insurance for 2013 with Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust. The premium for worker's compensation insurance decreased from $269,395 to $251,853. Property casualty insurance went from $210,710 last year to $225,815.

Alex Snedeker of Snedeker Risk Management said the overall premium increase for the two insurances combined is only one percent. That is nearly unheard of, particularly considering the amount of property added to the policy over the past few years. Snedeker estimated the recent audit found $5 to $7 million in property which was added to the policy.

The board also agreed to renew employee life insurance through Standard Insurance Company for two years. The coverage reflects a nine percent increase.

Snedeker asked the board to approve the purchase of a comprehensive organ transplant insurance. The plan will cost about $15,000 per year. It was approved. In other business, the board:

• approved a five-year special use permit for Clinton Shubert to place a 2006 mobile home on Bobwhite Road northwest of Tamaroa and a 10-year special use permit for Lucas Warden to place a new mobile home in White Walnut Estates.

• heard from County Engineer Brian Otten that a landowner has requested the county close the northernmost quarter mile of Calladium Road, effectively making it his driveway. Otten said a public hearing is scheduled for Nov. 14 at the site.
