Car Bursts Into Flames on East Park Street

The Du Quoin Fire Department was called to 710 East Park Street late Wednesday afternoon on a report of a car on fire. As firemen arrived, this Pontiac at the Harvey Gillespie home was fully engulfed in flames. The car is owned by Brandon Lawrence, who was visiting. The fire melted siding on the house and caused damage to a nearby pickup truck in the neighbor's yard. The fire melted the power line leading to the home, which began sparking and popping and had to be replaced by Ameren. The cause has not been determined.
