Tamaroa Meeting Focuses on Town Improvements

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Following lengthy discussion, Mayor Travis Stube appointed Trustees Bill Place, Fred Schultz and Betty Roberts to find a new three-quarter ton pick-up truck with an extended cab, four wheel drive and a diesel engine for the village. The price should not exceed $45,000.

Other improvements in the works include the vinyl-coating of the gymnasium and community center, the purchase of new mats for the gym and the possibility of installing trophy cases. Accucoat treated Tamaroa Grade School with their vinyl spray coating last year. The vinyl coat seals the building to prevent moisture and deterioration.

Trustee Kirk Pestka said the cost of plexiglass for the trophy cases may be prohibitive. Place suggested looking at used glass.

Pestka also reported that former Trustee Nelson Knapp is planning a removable art piece for the gym in place of a wall mural. The plywood for the art piece should cost around $500. Pestka also plans to order solid color mats instead of the more expensive mats with art on them. The original price of the art mats was $3,200. He said he expects the solid-color mats to cost about a third of that price. The Booster Club and Tamaroa Grade School are each donating $1,000 for the mats.

The board also approved vinyl coating for the outside restrooms, a water booster station and new scupper boxes for the outside of the gymnasium by Accucoat. Genesio Refrigeration will do the sheet metal work for the scupper boxes and the top of the water booster station. Total cost of the additional projects is $10,573.

The old scupper boxes disintegrated when new guttering was put on the gymnasium. Place suggested that village employees could install a drainage system around the gym to prevent flooding after all the improvements are completed.

Mayor Stube was authorized to execute a contract to replace a lift station and an effluent pump station which are in bad shape. Southern Engineering got a estimate for the work at $68,500. Place asked for a second estimate to see if the price would decrease. The village has received a $60,000 grant which will be used to pay for the majority of the work.

In other business, the board:

heard that the Oct. 6 Village Picnic will feature a beer tent, food stand and music by 4Play.

heard that deputies cited Mike Frost for ordinance violations on his property.
