Bost announces high school art competition
U.S Rep. Mike Bost is inviting all high school students from Illinois' 12th Congressional District to participate in the 2018 Congressional Art Competition.
The district includes the counties of Jefferson, Perry, Franklin, Williamson, Union, Alexander, Pulaski, Jackson, Randolph, Monroe, St. Clair and part of Madison.
Initiated by members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, the event is a nationwide annual art competition that allows high school students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability.
"This is a great opportunity for our young people to showcase their talent while highlighting the beauty of Southern Illinois," Bost said in a news release. "I always look forward to seeing the impressive artwork produced by the incredibly talented high school students here in southern Illinois."
The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in the district. The theme of this year's competition is "Illinois' Bicentennial: 200 Years of Artistry."
The winning artwork from the district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. capitol. Additionally, the winner and a guest will be invited to attend a reception in Washington D.C., where they will be escorted on a tour of the U.S. capitol.
Judging is performed by members of the local art community. Submissions will be accepted in Bost's O'Fallon District Office through March 6.
