Hot Button: Du Quoin Council to Revisit Roadblocks
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Du Quoin City Council at Monday night's 6 p.m. will accept comment from the general public, affected organizations and downtown business owners as to whether the city council should rescind an earlier measure to end all downtown charity fundraising roadblocks.
The council is simply seeking the voice of reason in trying to determine whether the roadblocks, typically held on Fridays and Saturdays, hurt Du Quoin or enhance the sense of community.
In the past two years the council has pared back--then ended altogether-- the number of roadblocks in the business district, believing that while some motorists give generously to things like the Lions Club and K of C candy day sales and veterans Poppy Day collections, many motorists drive completely out of their way to avoid them. If you wish to comment, please keep your remarks brief and to the point. Preparing a written statement ahead of time may help speed the process.
