BASEBALL: Stranded base runners haunt 2504/647 at Murphysboro

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville-Du Quoin stranded at least one runner on base in every inning but the third allowing Murphysboro to sneak away with a 3-1 victory at Riverside Park on Thursday in Senior American Legion 25th District play.

Murphysboro Post 127 did all of their damage in the bottom of the first inning. Aiden McMahan reached on an error and Jacob Baird followed with a walk. Mitchell Rose was next with an RBI double, then Gavyn Ellet and Jacob Stewart both singled with one out. Eight men came to the plate in the inning and Murphy led 3-0 off of Pinckneyville-Du Quoin left-hander Kyle Mueller.

Posts 2504 & 647 left two men on in each of their first two at-bats, then went in order in the third. C.J. Opp walked to lead off the fourth, ended up at third after a pair of wild pitches, then scored on P-DQ&#39;s lone RBI of the game - a sacrifice fly by Marian Brammier.

Pinckneyville-Du Quoin stranded the bases loaded in the fifth, left two more men on in the sixth, and also wasted a one-out single in the seventh by Brett Warchol (1-4).

Mueller (1-3), Brammeier (1-2, RBI, SAC), Bryant Shute (1-3, BB), Brandon George (1-1, BB, HBP) and Zach Phillips (1-1) also hit safely on Thursday.

Pinckneyville-Du Quoin out-hit Murphysboro six to five, but left eleven men on base.

2504/647 travels to Carrier Mills on Friday for a scheduled 6:00 p.m. doubleheader.
