Assistant chief of police Jamie Ellermeyer identifies the men as Kyeiree Meyers, 17, of St. Louis, and Dantrell Anders, 18, originally from Du Quoin.
The details that police have were released late Monday.
Police say Freeman Spur residents Ronald Curry, 41, and Tara Curry, 45, had pulled into the Shell station for gasoline.
Tara got out of the car to go inside and pay for the gasoline when one of the two men in the other car apparently made an off-color or suggestive remark to the woman. A videotape from the service station shows Tara stopped beside the car occupied by Meyers--the driver--and Anders.
Ronald Curry got out of his car and felt the need to challenge the two men over the remark one of them had made.
As Curry approached the Monte Carlo, Meyers put the car in reverse and turned to pull out of the station. In doing so, the car struck Curry and knocked him to the ground.
The car sped away and has apparently left the area. Curry hit his head on the pavement and the Pinckneyville Ambulance Service was called to the scene. Curry was transported to the medical evacuation landing pad at Marshall Browning Hospital where he was airlifted to a St. Louis Hospital. He has since been released.
As police took down information and began their search for the two men they were notified that a woman identified as Jenna Szczebewski of Pinckneyville had loaned her silver Monte Carlo to Meyers and that he had never returned it. Pinckneyville police listed the car as stolen on the Illinois State Police Emergency Network (ISPERN).
Ellermeyer said the two men are believed to be back in the St. Louis area and will rely on various criminal alert networks to find the men and make an arrest.
