Five Injured in Head-on Crash East of Elkville

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The investigation into a 9 p.m. Saturday head-on collision that injured five people continues today at the Illinois State Police District 13 command at Du Quoin.

Lori Helmer, 48, of Elkville was charged with driving under the influence of drugs in connection with the crash that occurred just east of Elkville on the Elkville Blacktop at about 9 p.m., state police said.

Helmer was driving a passenger car that collided with a van driven by Anita Kreid, 62, of Dowell.

Helmer, Kreid and Kreid's three passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

All were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

No other details were immediately available.
