</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The City of Du Quoin in cooperation with Perry Ridge Landfill will allow residents of the city to haul trash, debris and junk to the landfill at no charge. This citywide cleanup effort will be held on Friday, June 22 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, June 23 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. All residents of the city will be responsible for the hauling and disposing of their own material.

Items that cannot be taken to the landfill for disposal are stoves, ranges, refrigerators, hot water heaters, furnaces, microwaves, air conditioners, tires, batteries, paint cans (with liquid), yard waste (leaves, grass, tree limbs), medical waste ad used motor oil.

As of January 1, 2012 the State of Illinois passed a law that these electronic items will not be accepted at landfills: televisions, monitors, printers, computers, electronic keyboards, facsimile machines, videocassette recorders, portable digital music players, digital video disc players, video game consoles, small scale servers, scanners, electronic mice, digital converter boxes, able receivers, satellite receivers and digital video dis recorders.

Citizens will have to show proof of residency prior to entering the landfill for free dumping. All non-residents will be charged the normal landfill rates. No businesses will be allowed to take trash, debris and junk to the landfill.

Public works director Dale Spencer said this should be a great opportunity that should not be abused.
