Du Quoin ‘Clothes Closet' to Open Thursday 5:30 to 7 p.m.

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[On Thursday, June 14 from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. the new Community Clothes Closet will begin operations at 314 North Maple street. The entrance is on Maple Street and parking is to on the side of the building facing the alleyway. The building is home to the Du Quoin Food Pantry.

"Currently, we are only open on Thursday evenings. We are looking for volunteers to be here on Thursday night as well as Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon, as this is when we will sort the clothes out. If interested, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Toni Behm, at 357-1291," said Rich Luh, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ.

"We are looking for good condition summer wear only (please no swim wear, footwear or underwear unless new and still in packages. Because of our limited space we have to limit our clothing to seasonal wear only. If you have clothes that are not stained, torn or missing buttons, or have broken clasps or zimmers, you may call Rev. Rich Luh at 542-3431 to make arrangements for pick-up or you can drop them off right our location," he said. But only Tuesday from 10-11:30 a.m. and Thursdays from 10-11:30 a.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m."

He adds, "We cannot emphasize enough--DO?NOT drop clothes off outside the building!

People will be able to obtain clothing once a month at no charge. Several organizations have made contributions to us to enable us to purchase some material for making shelves and racks. Our volunteers thus far have already begun the process of sorting clothes--getting ready for our opening.
