BASEBALL: Dominating debut for P-DQ Senior Legion

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Pinckneyville-Du Quoin&#39;s Senior Legion team pounded out sixteen hits in their season opener on Tuesday evening, defeating the S.I. Sun Dawgs 18-8 in nine innings at Dowell.

Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was called off after the first contest took over three hours to complete.

C.J. Opp led the offense for Pinckneyville-Du Quoin, driving in six runs while going 4-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, a walk and a sacrifice.

Former Du Quoin Indian and current Rend Lake College hurler Brandon George tossed the first four innings for Posts 2504 & 647, striking out nine batters while allowing two earned runs on five hits and five walks.

After Bryant Shute got P-DQ on the board with an RBI triple in the top of the first to score Adam Barczewski, Brett Warchol belted a two-run homer to make it 3-0.

Nate Boss and Opp had back-to-back RBI doubles in the second, part of three-run inning for 2504/637. George added a homer in the fourth before yielding the pitching duties to Shute, who inherited an 8-2 advantage.

The Sun Dawgs got two runs back in the fifth, but Pinckneyville-Du Quoin would erase hopes of a comeback with three in the sixth, two more in the seventh, and a five-spot in the eighth.

Other 2504/647 players with multiple hits included Boss (3-4, 2 2B, 2 BB, 4 R, 3 RBI), Shute (2-6, 3B, 3 R, 2 RBI) and George (2-2, HR, SAC, 2 R, 2 RBI). Barczewski (1-6, 2 R), Warchol (1-5, HR, BB, 3 R, 3 RBI), Kegan Robbins (1-2, 2 BB, 2 HBP) and Luke Miller (1-6) also had hits against the Sun Dawgs.

Posts 2504 & 647 travel to Marion on Wednesday.
