PCHS Closes Campus to Freshmen and Sophomores
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Pinckneyville Community High School Board of Education adopted a semi-closed campus lunch policy Monday evening. Students at the new Pinckneyville Community High School will check in each day using a fingerprint scanner. Freshman and Sophomores will be required to remain on campus all day.
Upperclassmen who have a signed parental permission slip on file at the school and meet the following criteria may leave campus for lunch:
no D's or F's during the weekly grade eligibility check corresponding with the athletic eligibility grade check
are not on the doctor's note required list
have no in-school or out-of-school suspensions.
At any time, a student may lose their privileges to go off campus at lunch if discipline is deemed necessary by the school administration.
All students who are required to stay on campus during lunch must check in on a daily basis using the thumbprint scan.
Students who go off campus during lunch or fail to register their thumbprint will face disciplinary action. Students who leave without permission or fail to check in will also face disciplinary action which could include verbal warning, detention, Saturday detention, in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension.
In other business, the board:
heard from Rick Horner of Holland Construction that the new school is slightly ahead of schedule. Asbestos abatement in the classrooms in Thomas Gym will begin May 7.
scheduled a special board meeting for 7 p.m. on May 7 to award track and field bids.
approved a school maintenance grant application. If the school is awarded funds, they will be used to buy new bleachers. All school maintenance grants are worth $50,000.
appointed Pam Logan to the PCHS Education Foundation Board.
accepted the resignation of Jacqueline White as assistant cheerleading coach.
accepted the retirement of bus aid Sharon Higgerson, effective at the end of this school year.
approved a trip to the Illinois State Convention in Springfield by FFA members in June.
