BASEBALL: Falcons come up a run short against Carmi

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Elverado couldn&#39;t hold on to a 3-1 lead after the first inning on Thursday, dropping a tight home game with Carmi 7-6. The Falcons had the tying run at second base in both the sixth and seventh innings, but couldn&#39;t get him in to extent the ball game.

Ethan Keller drew a walk and Wade Bowlin absorbed a hit by pitch in the first, setting the table to Christian Kistner&#39;s single to bring in two runs. Kistner would score on an error to make it 3-0.

Falcons&#39; ace Eli Fennell walked the leadoff batter in each of his first three innings on the hill and all three times that runner came in to score. The Bulldogs also had back-to-back hits in a two-run second and led 4-3 in the middle of the third.

Fennell tied it on a sacrifice fly to plate Kistner in the bottom of the third, and after a scoreless fourth Carmi got two more runs on Falcon errors in the top of the fifth. The Bulldogs got an insurance run in the top of the sixth before Fennell and Collin Hester singled and scored for Everado in the bottom half to make it 7-6 Carmi.

The Falcons stranded two men on base in the sixth and another in the seventh.

Kistner (1-3, HBP, 2 R, 2 RBI), Keller (1-3, BB, R), Bowlin (1-3, HBP, R), Fennell (1-3, SAC, R, RBI) and Hester (1-3, R) had the Falcons&#39; five hits.

Fennell took the loss, going all seven innings and allowing eight hits and four walks with three strikeouts.
