AUXILAIRY TO HOST BAKE SALE MAY 11

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Memorial Hospital Auxiliary met Friday, March 2 in the hospital's conference room. The program was presented by the hospital's Pharmacy Director, Kathy Winkler, who discussed "Spring Cleaning Your Medicine Cabinet" and the proper way to dispose of prescription and over-the-counter medications. She stressed that medicines should not be flushed down toilets or rinsed down the sink because of the danger to environment. She encouraged those present to peel off the name from the label and take all medicines to the medicine collection box, located at the Chester Police Department. If a community doesn't have a collection box for outdated or unused medications, she suggested that people mix the meds with water or wet coffee grounds (liquid medications with flour), put in sealable bags and place in the trash. These steps are followed, she said, to prevent drug abuse, poisoning and pollution.

The general business meeting was conducted by Chairman Norma Woods. It was reported that the Feb. 15 blood drive netted 52 units of blood. There were 66 who registered, however, with 14 deferred. The auxiliary hosted a book fair on March 21 in the hospital's front lobby. An auxiliary bake sale will be held May 11, beginning at 7 a.m. and the public is invited to attend.

Auxiliary scholarship notices have been posted in area newspapers and, to date, two applications have been received.

The membership report included the information that the auxiliary now has 304 members (170 active; 120 inactive; and 14 life memberships). New active members joining the past year are: Teresa Ball, Andrea Costilow, Pat Friess, Jean Hille, Ashley Jones, Gail Meyer, Jane Stallman, Mary Stallman and Linda Young. Inactive members who joined during the past year are: Kim Knop and Linda Stallman. The auxiliary lost two longtime members during the past year, Roberta Mueller and Peggy Johnson.

At the conclusion of the meeting an attendance prize was won by Barb Kittell. The next general meeting of Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will be Friday, June 1 at 1:30 p.m.
