Lady Jackets win first game in comeback fashion

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Scoring five times in the final frame, The Chester Lady Yellow Jackets came from behind to defeat the Valmeyer Lady Pirates 9-8. Chester improved their record to 1-5 as they recorded the first win on the season.

Valmeyer scored in the first inning but had a runner thrown out the plate by Chester&#39;s Marah Laramore. Valmeyer also had a second runner tagged at the plate on a play by Katie Roth to catcher Mallory Westerman .

The Lady Jackets scored twice in the first inning. Brea Braun walked to lead off the inning and scored from first on a Katie Roth bunt and throwing error by Valmeyer. Roth scored on single by Taylor Gross to put Chester up 2-1.

Valmeyer would score three runs in the second and another in the third inning for a 5-2 lead. Chester added a run in the bottom of the third with a hit by pitch of Lauren Hoops leading off the inning. Hoops scored on a sacrifice fly by Meghan Ernst to cut the Lady Pirates lead down to 5-3.

Valmeyer scored twice in the sixth on a walk, a single and a double to take a 7-3 lead. Chester scored a single tally in the sixth on a walk and back to back hits by Braun and Roth to set the score at 7-4.

Valmeyer scored a run in the seventh to take a lead of 8-4 before a wild comeback by the Lady Jackets. A one out single by Gross got the Lady Jackets started. An error, a walk and a fielder&#39;s choice plated Gross to make the score 8-5. Westerman added a 2-run single to pull Chester within a run 8-7. Braun was walked intentionally and Roth was retired on a pop up to a diving third baseman for the second out. That set up the heroics for Senior Lauren Hoops as she si8ngied in the tying and winning runs for a 9-8 victory. Gross was the winning pitcher in relieve of Jocelynne Fortman. She tossed five innings striking out eight Lady Pirates. Gross had two hits with Braun, Roth, Hoops, Laramore and Westerman all had a hit. Braun reached base five times in the game.

Chester will play next on April 4 at Dupo The next home game at the Cohen Complex on April 5 against conference foe Johnston City. The Lady Jackets will travel to Zeigler- Royalton on April 10.

Shawnee 4 Chester 1

Shawnee scored three times their last two at bats to break a 1-1 tie to beat the Chester Lady Yellow Jackets 4-1. Chester falls to 0-4 on the season .

The Lady Redskins took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a walk, a stolen base and a base hit. Chester forged a tie with a run in the top of the second inning. Meghan Ernst lined a one out double and came around to score on a Sydney Haberberger single to tie the game.

Shawnee would break out in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 advantage and add a run in the sixth for the final margin.

The Jackets Lacey Reynolds took the loss on the mound. Chester&#39;s Lauren Hoops (1-2), Taylor Gross (1-3), Meghan Ernst (1-3) and Chloe Wallace (1-2) each singled for the Lady Yellow Jackets.

Gibault 4 Chester 1

The Waterloo Gibault Lady Hawks scored two runs in the third inning to break open a scoreless game en route to a 4-1 win over the Chester Yellow Jackets. Chester saw their record drop to 0-5 as they played at the Cohen Complex.

The Lady Hawks finally solved Chester&#39;s Taylor Gross scoring twice in the third and a single run in the fourth to pull ahead 3-0. Gibault also scored a run in the seventh inning.

Chester scored a run in the sixth as Amber Watkins led off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brea Braun. Gross had the Lady Jackets only other hit. She was the losing hurler as she stuck out four Hawks on the day.
