BASEBALL: Indians hold off Bulldogs 6-2

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[On Tuesday, DuQuoin High School Baseball recovered from Monday&#39;s lopsided defeat at Anna, defeating conference foe Sparta 6-2 in seven innings. DuQuoin&#39;s record is 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the Conference.

DuQuoin scored one run in the first to take the lead and five more runs in the third. Sparta scored two runs in the sixth inning.

Austin Mansker was the winning pitcher for DuQuoin going 5 2/3 innings. Mansker allowed two runs (both unearned), three hits, had 7 strikeouts, 4 walks, and one hit batter. Brenden Fred relieved for the final 1 1/3 innings allowing no runs and one hit. Each team committed two errors in the game.

DuQuoin had 8 hits in the game. Austin Mansker was 2-3. Brenden Fred was 2-3. Camden Youngman was 1-2 with a walk, an RBI, on a sacrifice fly. Travis Chapman was 1-2 with an RBI. Jon Boss was 1-3 with 2 RBIs. Camdon Mercier had a solo Home Run in the third with an RBI. Other Indians seeing playing time were Nate Boss, Garrett Dorsey, Jonah Spencer, and Jacob O&#39;Rourke was the flex on defense.

Coach Tim Craft was happy with the win. "Austin Mansker did a great job giving us 6 strong innings of pitching. Mercier&#39;s home run in the third got us going. We definitely did a better job of putting the ball in play today." Craft is assisted by Jeromie Morgan, David Hopkins, and Cory Robbins.

DuQuoin is at home again on Wednesday with Freeburg, at home on Thursday with Carterville, and is at home on Saturday with Eldorado.
