Fight Ends in Du Quoin Man Being Airlifted to St. Louis Hospital

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The stories differ as to how the fight began, but a Du Quoin man Monday morning was beaten so badly he had to be transported to Marshall Browning Hospital by ambulance, then airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital with major head injuries.

The Perry County Sheriff's Department received a call at approximately 8:30 a.m. from Pinckneyville Ambulance Service medics who were called to Kellerman's Powder Coating on Rt. 51 north of Du Quoin.

The specialty paint service is located in a building behind Clay's Transmission.

The business is owned by Jeff Kellerman, who was out of town when the fight broke out between Jorje Terez, a former employee of Don Tequila's Mexican restaurant, and shop employee Shannon Wallace.

The sheriff's department said at 1 p.m. Monday that Terez, who suffered the serious injuries, had yet to be interviewed. Deputies could not reach any conclusions until that has been done.

Terez is married to the former Mindy Smith and is a brother-in-law to Vanessa Fleming of Du Quoin.

A sheriff's deputy conducted interviews at the shop. A third employee was nearby, but authorities say the fight broke out behind a protective curtain and the third employee could offer little information as to how or why the fight began.
