Coach Tim Craft commented on Friday's game, "Friday night was a tough loss for us. We had a lot of opportunities to score, but did not take advantage of them. Mansker threw a whale of a game on the mound for us. We did not take advantage of the great start he gave us."
After hanging on for a 6-4 victory over much-improved Elverado in the 10:00 a.m. game, the Indians shut out Flora 3-0 behind Fred's six-hitter at 2:00 p.m on Saturday. This makes DuQuoin's record 3-3 overall.
Fred was 2-3 with a double. Nate Boss was 2-4. Youngman was 2-3, including a double, and an RBI. Chapman was 1-4 with an RBI. Dorsey was 2-3 with a double.
Fred pitched all seven innings for the Indians. He allowed 6 hits, no runs, had one walk, and one strikeout.
Coach Craft commented, "A.J. Smith and Brenden Fred did a great job on the mound for us, when we were short of arms. Our offense struggled on Saturday, but the defense and pitching kept us in a position to win. Camden Youngman came through with some big hits all weekend long. He is doing a great job at the plate for us." The assistant coaches are Jeromie Morgan, David Hopkins, and Cory Robbins.
DuQuoin starts their conference schedule this week. DuQuoin travels to Anna-Jonesboro on Monday. Tuesday is a home game with Sparta, and Wednesday is another home game with Freeburg. Thursday has the Indians at home again with Carterville. On Saturday, DuQuoin hosts Eldorado for two games.
