A handful of picketers including Randy Hutton of Pinckneyville began their protest in January and have returned on a handful of occasions.
The protests center on law enforcement's handling of a drug problem on the city's north side months ago. Hutton wrote in a letter to the editor "After staking out a meth lab involving 20 to 30 people, why were charges not enhanced since it was less than 40 feet from church property."
The pickets have been set up to protest the sheriff's department and the state's attorney's office.
On Thursday, there was an exchange between Hutton and resident Larry Williams, who was crossing from the sidewalk near Mc Donald's to Stotlar Drugs on the other corner. The two started arguing and the exchange, involving a protestor's wife as well, ended in disorderly conduct citations against both men.
