PCHS Sets Target Date to Move
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The weather has been especially cooperative since construction began in earnest on the new Pinckneyville Community High School. The board has set a target date of August to move in to the new building. Classes for the 2012-13 school year will start the Tuesday after Labor Day, Superintendent Jon Green said.
The next bid package goes out Thursday, March 1 and will be opened March 21. The bids are for health/life/safety renovation work to Thomas Gymnasium. The bids will be awarded at the March 26 board meeting.
In other business, the board:
heard from Green that he met with state legislators last week. The state may not pay any transportation funds in the coming year. Legislators are also considering shifting the pension crisis to local districts. PCHS covers a large area, making transportation reimbursement important.
agreed to join the Southern Illinois School District Cooperative Buying program. The program allows PCHS and 28 other districts to pool their purchasing power for cafeteria supplies. Larger orders mean greater discounts.
discussed the 2012-13 handbook. The board is considering closing campus to Freshmen and Sophomores and making Juniors and Seniors meet specific criteria to leave campus such as minimum GPA.
set the 2012 graduation date for Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m.
accepted the resignation of IT Coordinator Thaddius Intravalia and hired Tyler Bullock as the IT Coordinator for the remainder of the school year.
accepted the resignations of librarian Marilyn Meyer and teacher Sam Loiacono at the end of this school year.
hired Bryant Hale as Assistant Softball Coach and Sean Patrick as Assistant Baseball Coach. Volunteer coaches hired were Tyler bullock, Taylor Beninati and Dave Sanders for Baseball and Bobby Rushing and Mark Bullock for track.
approved overnight field trips for the FCCLA to the state conference in Springfield April 19 and 20 and FBLA to their state conference in Decatur on March 30 and 31.
