First Look at Pinckneyville's New Shopping Complex

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[A photo of a similar store in Wisconsin was presented Monday to the Pinckneyville City Council on the 18,000 square foot shopping center proposed by Doug and Carol Kellerman and Jim and Carol Brand of Pinckneyville.

The four announced at a Pinckneyville City Council meeting Monday that they have secured financing for the shopping facility--first announced years ago--to be erected on the south edge of town near and parallel to the railroad tracks. Doug Kellerman said the new building will have some retail rental space available, but will be largely occupied by Kellerman's Feed Store and another local business. Kellerman asked the council to increase the amount of the TIF development agreement from $250,000 to $300,000, per his discussions with former Mayor Joe Holder.

Holder verbally agreed to the increase to allow Kellerman and Brand to buy the land for the new shopping complex from John and Paula Hubler, who had been partners in the project, but have since withdrawn. Kellerman also asked for an additional $125,000 in business district sales tax for use in the project. The board agreed to consider his requests.

Total cost for the project is $1,087,000. Kellerman is hoping for a fall opening with a grand opening Mardi Gras weekend. Construction is expected to take 120 days and will likely be done by Tru-Bilt of Marion.
