</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The second annual Eagle Trek was another success held Saturday, February 4th 2012 at the Kaskaskia Lock & Dam. Despite the rain and fog, residents of southwestern Illinois and the Ste. Genevieve, MO-area came to experience a unique eagle event south of the Alton/St. Louis area.

Over 200 visitors enjoyed eagle-watching with spotting scopes and a program with the feathered inhabitants of the World Bird Sanctuary! Visitors also took short interpreted walks both upstream and downstream from the Dam to see the confluence of the Mississippi & Kaskaskia Rivers and tour the Lock & Dam itself. Participants enjoyed lunch from a local eatery and spent time making eagle-related crafts to take home. This event was free and pet-friendly.

Thanks to the partners for this event: US Army Corps of Engineers, the US Fish & Wildlife Service, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Southwestern Illinois College, Chester Tourism Commission, Southwestern Illinois Resource Conservation & Development, Clifftop, Lower Kaskaskia Stakeholders, Inc. and Kaskaskia River Port District.
