Vernon, while participating in the Carbondale Mid-Winter Tournament. The lead went back and forth between the two teams, and DuQuoin was ahead by three points at the final buzzer. The score was 40-37.

At the end of the first quarter, Mt. Vernon led 9-7, and at the half DuQuoin was ahead 20-17. After three quarters, Mt. Vernon again had the lead at 27-25, but the final score is all that counts, and DuQuoin won the game. Coach Shawn File commented that "we will definitely take the win especially over a South Seven School." This makes DuQuoin's record 18-4 overall and still 5-1 in the Conference race.

Rebekah Maddox was the leading scorer for the Indians with 13 points. Maddox also had 10 rebounds for a double/double night. Alexis Kohrs had 11 points, Jessica Hirsch 9, Cassidy Rice 3 with 7 rebounds, Taylor King 2, and Kelsey Robinson 2. Hirsch was 4-4 at the free throw line during that important fourth quarter.

Coach File continued, "we did a good job getting out in transition. We got some easy baskets and ran a good offense. Maddox got some good touches. We took really good shots. I am really proud of how we played tonight. Mt. Vernon is a very good team."

DuQuoin will play Collinsville on Thursday evening at 6:00 as the tournament continues. This win assures that DuQuoin will play on Saturday. The time will depend on whether they win or lose on Thursday. Coach File thought that Collinsville might be the favorite to win the tournament.
