Katelyn Mayer continued her impressive stretch of play for Pinckneyville, recording a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while also tallying 5 steals.
"She finds ways to put the ball in the basket," said PCHS girls head basketball coach Alan Englehardt. "She's always around the ball, and she's our leading rebounder from the guard position."
Lindsey Winter also had a big night for the Lady Panthers with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Pinckneyville had 31 rebounds as a team for the game.
PCHS led 9-7 after one and 24-18 at the half as they gradually built a lead that the Lady Wildcats could never put a serious dent in.
"We kept them at arms' length the entire night, we didn't have the killer instinct to just go put them away and finish the game," said Englehardt.
"If we can start eliminating dribble drives and second-chance opportunities, we can really guard people. We play really well defensively in spurts. What we've got to be able to do is be able to play with that intensity for the full 32 minutes."
Others in the scoring column for Pinckneyville included Haley Simpson with 6 points, Heather McDaniel 5, Alyssa Hirsch and Haley Szczepanski 4, and Megan Bagley 1.
McDaniel led the Lady Panthers with 4 assists and Simpson had a pair of blocked shots.
"Sometimes I forget we're young, but we're learning and we need to keep getting better every time out," Englehardt said. "If we can do that, I think by the end of the year we'll be a team that people won't enjoy playing."
Pinckneyville (6-1, 2-0) has a chance to start their Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division schedule 3-0 on Thursday when they host Sparta.
