Next Summer Before Dairy Queen Reopens
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The trustee assigned to the bankruptcy of Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Furry, owners of the Dairy Queens in Du Quoin and Pinckneyville, has abandoned the properties as an asset of the Furrys, which opens the door for a local bank to foreclose on them and find a buyer.
The Du Quoin Evening Call understands that the trustee feels that because of the large debt load on the properties there is little or no cash equity in them, thus no money to pay creditors.
There is a lot of interest in the properties and in operating them again as Dairy Queens, but it will take 90 days for the foreclosure process, followed by negotiations with Dairy Queen, Inc. which could include retrofitting the buildings with upgrades.
Then, franchise and licensing agreements have to be negotiated and contracts finalized with the new owner(s).
All told, do not count on the popular restaurants re-opening for several months.
