Komen Atlanta 3-Day for the Cure because 60 miles can take her closer to finding a cure. After months of training and fundraising, participants will walk 60 miles during three days to raise awareness and fund for breast cancer research and community-based breast health and education programs.
"This is my first year participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure I also have done the race for the cure in St. Louis the last two years and wanted to take it a "step"further", said Shemonic. "Through my particpation in this event I know I am making a personal impact on the breast cancer movement. The Komen 3-Day for the Cure is challenging, but the opportunity to have an impact is enormous."
"I originally wanted to participate in honor of my Aunt Sue Anderson, who was diagnosed with breast cancer, not one, but TWICE in her life and is a survivor. I', also going to be walking in honor of two local Chester residents who are survivors, Jan Straight and Susan Lutz. I will be walking with my team mates, "The Pink Slips". The team has members coming from San Francisco, New York, South Caroline, Louisana, Kentucky and Illinois to particpate. Our moto,"We're ahnding out p ink slips to breast cancer; you have been terminated!
