GOLF: McDaniel, Mathis moving on

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lady Panthers Heather McDaniel and Olivia Mathis both are moving on to Tuesday's Carterville Sectional after their performances at yesterday's Pinckneyville Regional at Red Hawk Golf Club. McDaniel shot an 81 on the par-71 course, good for a fifth place tie overall.

The Pinckneyville Regional was loaded with talented teams, but none more so than Nashville, which claimed the title of champion with a 337, 18 strokes better than second place Althoff (355). Okawville (360) rounded out the top three advancing to Crab Orchard on Tuesday.

Pinckneyville's team total of 378 placed them fifth of the twelve teams, but that same score would have put them in the top three of fourteen of the other fifteen IHSA Class A Girls Regionals. McDaniel (81), Mathis (87), Sarah Carlson (102) and Alexis Anderson (108) made up the Lady Panthers' total. Claire Wittenauer (112) and Brooke Heisner (116) also took part for PCHS.

Du Quoin's Blair Hester was the only Lady Indian taking part in Wednesday's Regional, shooting 102.

The Hornettes not only claimed first place as a team, but sophomore Shawn Rennegarbe was two-under at 69 to win the first place medal.

Joining the three advancing teams at the Tuesday, October 11 Sectional in Carterville will be individuals Allie Leingang (Columbia, 79), McDaniel, Abby Bergkoetter (Freeburg, 85), Jillian Oberholtzer (Freeburg, 86), Catherine Hawn (Waterloo, 86), Abbie Whitehead (Waterloo, 87), Jackie Killian (Freeburg, 87), Mathis, Megan Biscan (Columbia, 88) and Kendra Kessler (Sparta, 88).

The Carterville Sectional will be held at Crab Orchard Golf Course, a par-70, 18-hole facility. The top three teams plus the top ten individuals not on one of those teams then move on to next weekend's IHSA Class A State Final Tournament held at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.

Panther Adam Valentine tees off in the boys' Class A Sectional at Governor's Run this coming Monday at 10:57 a.m., starting his 18-hole round on the back 9.
