Fainer was 9 years old when the Nazis stormed in his hometown of Bendzin, Poland. Upon arrival they rounded up all the Jews who lived there. For the next six years, Frainer was shuttled between five Nazi concentration camps, until the spring of 1945, when American troops liberated him. Among the Nazi camps Fainer was imprisoned was Buchenwald. Fainer's mother, brother and two sisters were taken to Auschwitz, where they were sent to the showers and gassed. Of 250 relatives in the Fainer family, only Fainer, his father, two aunts and two uncles survived the Holocaust.
First Baptist Church is located in Chester, Illinois between the Randolph County Courthouse and the Chester Public Library. There will be a meet-and-greet with Mr. Fainer in the church's fellowship hall after the service. Light refreshments will be served.
