The goal is to build seven homes in seven days in an inspiring 200th episode of the 9-year-old show.
Contempri Homes--whose logo was posted on ABC's Extreme Makeover Web site over the weekend--is one of nearly two dozen operating partners for the build. One of the lead builders is Sam Clifton, president of Missouri-based Millstone Custom Homes.
Work on a very special home will begin at 12 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Contempri Homes factory in Pinckneyville. Members of the community are being asked to sign up for six-hour shifts to build the home in about 30 hours. Five shifts are planned.
Once the home is finished it will be encased in a bright white shrink-wrap, as are all homes built by Contempri. This time, however, those who worked on the home will use markers to send a message to the family that will receive the home.
Contempri is supplying one of seven homes that will be put up in seven days by "Extreme Makeover Home Edition." This very special show and Contempri Homes will receive national exposure along the way.
All seven homes are going to Joplin, Mo., where a tornado destroyed much of the community on the afternoon of Sunday,?May 22, 2011.
"We can do it with 150 volunteers," said Brad Perry of Contempri. "But, we're expecting more. We're trying to keep it local."
The finished home will be delivered Oct. 17 to Joplin and set in place on Oct. 20.
Perry said he told "Extreme Makeover" about the community project and expects film crews to visit the 'Friendly Little City.'
Contempri has been active in Joplin since the tornado and currently has a full production schedule, Perry said. Asking community volunteers to build the "Extreme Makeover" home allowed the company to keep up with its current workload and participate in the television program.
Contempri Homes is accustomed to high quality deadline building, having designed, built and erected several homes in the Midwest before last year's federal income tax home credit deadline.
